STUDY

We start by listening. What is your vision? How do you want to feel in your space? What are your practical needs? With you and your story in mind we study space, existing conditions, inventory, building codes, and budgetary guidelines to develop the scope for your project.

CONCEPTS

We create preliminary drawings and work on the development of all design concepts: floor plans, furniture layout, interior finishes, lighting and technology, color palettes, furnishings and fabric selections. Furthermore we review technical plans (e.g. mechanical, electrical) to make sure they reflect your demands and needs for each space.

"Support and flexibility from start to finish - you could not have been more understanding and supportive in eliciting from me my personal vision, my color and style preferences, and the function of each room in the house. Working within our budget, you gently guided us on where it was worthwhile to spend a little more and where economizing made sense."
- Alisa A., Great Neck, NY and Stockbridge, MA

Case study: Implementation of concepts for Brownstone Kitchen Renovation

Prompted by the clients's travels and their love for craftsmanship, we chose a handmade Moroccan tile for wall and backsplash. A piece of antique wood paneling from the late 16th-century inspired the custom designed kitchen cabinetry. This "Live-in-Kitchen" is both functional and inviting, accommodating a family with small children, that loves to cook and entertain. The owners wanted to create a contemporary space that respects the history of their early 19th Century Townhouse. High ceilings make the space airy and light, while the use of natural materials creates a warm atmosphere. An antique Biedermeier farmhouse bench was fully restored and fit for the dining area as built-in banquette.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT CONTRACT DOCUMENTS

The vision is starting to become reality. Preliminary choices are being refined and finalized, requiring your final sign off. During the contract document phase we will help you to obtain and review contractor proposals. We are working together with architects and technical consultants (e.g. lighting, security, audio/video etc.) to prepare plans and documents needed to begin construction.

CONTRACTORS PURCHASING INSTALLATION

While construction gets underway, we are preparing specifications for finishes, furnishings, equipment, fixtures, appliances, and window treatments, then start placing orders. Visiting the project site on a regular basis, we stay in close dialogue with contractors, architects, and technical consultants serving as contact point between you and everybody involved in the project. At the end of construction we will create a punch list for all contractors to tie up loose ends, before starting the final installation.

"From furniture, to lighting, fabrics, paint colors, door knobs, and hinges - down to the tiniest detail, there is a unity and flow. Everyone who visits is struck by the serenity of the overall design."
Heidemarie B., New York, NY
